This rod is everything a gator rod should be. For the 2008 SC alligator season I used on old spinning rig with 65# powerpro. I was able to harvest a 9'6" 200# gator but it took 2 1/2 hours to wear him down and get him close to the boat to snare him. Over the winter I searched for a better spinning rig. I upgraded to 150# powerpro with 12/0 and 14/0 snag hooks. None of the commercially available heavy spinning rods performed well. I could not cast as far and they lacked enough backbone to apply pressure on a gator and move it off the bottom. The Gator Pro rod is different. It is longer, has a larger handle, and more than enough backbone strength. The tip is also light enough to maintain control. I am able to cast farther with more accuracy than I could with anything else. This rod works great. I would highly recommend it. This year I harvested a 10'1" 250# gator.
